ABOUT COACH MATT POWERS

Coach Powers with NAPHL T1ER Top Prospects

Based in the DC, Maryland, and Virginia area, Coach Matt Powers has been training and coaching players for the better part of 6 years. Coach Powers played Division 3 College Hockey at Mount St. Mary’s University. After his freshman year, he was signed by the Jersey Shore Wildcats of the NA3HL and the Wichita Falls Wildcats of the NAHL Junior “A” Hockey teams. Coach Powers then was forced to retire from playing competitively due to concussions and began coaching at 19 years old. He started as the Head Coach for The Bullis Preparatory School, then became the Assistant Coach for Howard High School Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams. After Howard High School, he transitioned into coaching club teams. He became the Head Coach of the Howard Huskies 16UAA and 12UAA teams. He was awarded “Coach of the Year” in 2021. He was also the Director of Player Development for the Howard Huskies during his time there. After the 2021-2022 season, he left the Howard Huskies and became the Head Coach of the Baltimore Stars 14U and 16U Teams in Baltimore, Maryland. His 14U team went from winning 5 games total in the 2021-2022 season, to being ranked 4th in the league and making the CBHL playoffs for the first time with the Baltimore Stars In March 20203, Coach Powers was hired to become the Academy Director and Head Coach of the 16U Academy team for the Northeast Generals in Attleboro, Massachusetts. The New England Generals have a 16U Academy team, an 18U Academy team, an NA3HL team, and an NAHL team. Coach Powers looks forward to moving his players up through the ranks and ultimately have them play NCAA Division 1 College Hockey and onto the pros. Coach Powers is the Owner and Founder of PowerSKATE Hockey.

ABOUT COACH BRENDAN POWERS

Brendan Powers is a first-year doctoral student in the George Washington University’s physical therapy program. He recently graduated from the University of Maryland, College Park with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Kinesiology and a minor in General Business. During his time at UMD, he worked with the Sports Nutrition department where he created nutritional supplements, vitamins, and muscle-building drinks that were catered to specific players’ dietary needs. He worked with the University’s men’s football and men’s baseball Division I varsity teams.
